What are service hours?
The bulk of the funding for Big Gay Prom is granted to us by the Inter Club Council (ICC). This is why the club needs ICC representatives, because they serve as a liaison between QA and the ICC. To get funding for Big Gay Prom, we need our members to get involved within the community (within PCC or outside of PCC). Without service hours, Big Gay Prom would not get funded. The number of hours we need depends on the amount of money we receive but we usually need anywhere from 100-150 hours from the club.
How can I get service hours?
On Campus:
The club can get service hours on campus by helping with school events not hosted by QA, such as setting up or cleaning up other club or school events, or participating in certain events, which the ICC will announce as a means of receiving service hours for participation. Examples of past events include the Candidate forum (seen below) and voting in student elections (1 vote =1 hour). To get credit for voting, a screenshot must be taken and the students name, and student ID must be submitted to the ICC representative of the club. If you are interested in participating in campus events, make sure the host of the event (club, person) acknowledges that you are volunteering for service hours. There will typically be a sign in where you will need your name and student ID, and club name ('Queer Alliance' in this case).
Off Campus:
Outside of PCC, QA can get hours from members involvement within the community. This can include volunteering for non-profit organizations or non-profit events, volunteering for public events (with the ICC representative's approval). Participating in some non-profit events can provide service hours. An example of an event that the club participates in every year is walking in AIDS walk LA. To get hours, you will need to have a letter from the event coordinator (explained below) or sign in with a sheet provided by the club (talk with the ICC representative beforehand). If you are not sure if your volunteering/participation hours count as service hours, ask the ICC representative.
